Humanities & the ArtsMichael Pollan visiting campus, free talk Sept. 24 for "Go Big Read"

Michael Pollan will be on campus for a series of events, Sept. 24-26.

Michael Pollan, author, essayist and Knight Professor of Journalism at UC-Berkeley, will be on campus for several events September 24-26.

The Go Big Read/Humanities Without Boundaries Public Lecture will be "In Defense of Food: The Omnivore's Solution."  The lecture will begin Thursday, September 24th at 7pm at the Kohl Center. Doors open at 6pm.

There are no tickets needed for this event, it is FREE and open to the public.

Pollan's visit to campus is made possible by several L&S units and many campus colleagues.

Biological & Physical SciencesShakhashiri's call to action in Wisconsin Academy Quarterly

Bassam Shakhashiri, William T. Evjue Distinguished Chair for the Wisconsin Idea and Director of the Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy, appeared in the Wisconsin Academy Quarterly.

Shakhashiri, a Wisconsin Academy Fellow, wrote about the value and importance of science literacy.  Shakhashiri will be celebrating his 40th year at UW-Madison this fall.
