Humanities & the ArtsChazen Museum of Art, Madison arts organizations host screenings of Art:21

Five Madison arts organizations have come together to present community screenings of the Peabody Award–winning biennial series "Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century."

"Art:21" is the only prime-time national television program focused exclusively on contemporary art.

Season 5 features the episodes Compassion, Fantasy, Transformation, and Systems.

During October, the Chazen Museum of Art, along with Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA), and Wisconsin Academy’s James Watrous Gallery, in conjunction with the Madison Arts Commission and Overture Center for the Arts, will screen all four hour-long episodes. Contemporary arts experts will lead open discussions following the screenings.

These community events offer art lovers accessible and social occasions to learn about and discuss the works, insights, and methods of contemporary artists.

Humanities & the ArtsChazen breaks ground on 81,000 sq. ft. expansion

On May 1 – with fanfare from the UW Marching Band – the Chazen Museum of Art broke ground on an 81,000-square-foot expansion. Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, Chancellor Biddy Martin, Dean Gary Sandefur, Tim Erdman, Simona and Jerry Chazen, and Russell Panczenko spoke about the value of the museum to the community and of the arts to our everyday lives.

The museum’s expansion will allow the Chazen to better serve the community across campus and around the state. It will open in Fall 2011 with versatile and elegant galleries and gathering spaces to fulfill the mission of enriching the human experience with visual art and art education.
