| Emeritus Opera Director Named to Wisconsin Academy |
Karlos Moser, professor of music and director of University Opera from 1961 to 1998, has been named a Fellow of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.
In his long tenure with the School of Music, Moser directed or conducted more than 100 productions, providing student singers and instrumentalists with invaluable experience performing both standard and less-familiar repertoire.
Fellows are elected for their high levels of accomplishment in their fields as well as a lifelong commitment to intellectual discourse.
To
be considered, one must have or have had a meaningful relationship with
the State of Wisconsin and be highly esteemed for qualities of
judgment, perceptiveness and breadth of knowledge of how literature,
art and science contribute to the cultural life and welfare of the
state.
Moser chose operas from the baroque, classical, Romantic and modern eras and collaborated with University Theatre to present American musicals. Moser was the founding conductor of the Fox Valley Symphony and a former director of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras.
There may be no more than 100 Fellows at any time.
